Croatia is preparing to transfer 14 Mi-8 helicopters to Ukraine, the deliveries of which were announced back in November 2022.
Helicopters will be ready for dispatch in approximately 10 days. In particular, 12 Mi-8MTV-1 and two Mi-8T helicopters were withdrawn from the Croatian army. Now these “birds” are undergoing maintenance at the aviation technical center in Bolshaya Goritsa. All existing markings are removed from the machines and repair and restoration work is carried out. This is reported by the publication Jutarnji list.
It is noted that seven helicopters will be partially dismantled and transported by land, and the remaining seven will fly to Poland. The authorities have not yet confirmed the information about this military assistance to the publication.
As you know, the Mi-8 is the most massive twin-engine helicopter in the world; more than 17 thousand copies of all modifications have been built throughout history). The helicopter was developed in the 1960s, mainly used as a transport aircraft. However, the Mi-8T and Mi-8MTV-1 versions can be easily converted into combat vehicles by installing detachable trusses with guided missile units, suspended air bombs or air cannons on the sides.
Recall that in November last year, the Croatian Ministry of Defense agreed on the transfer of Mi-8 and Mi-8 MTV helicopters. The department believed that the transfer of these “birds” would be a rational decision, since some helicopters will soon run out of resources for maintenance.
