The Polish oil company PKN Orlen SA stopped receiving oil because of the Druzhba oil pipeline from Russia.
This was announced on February 25 by CEO Daniel Obaitek on Twitter.
Obaitek assured that Russia’s actions would not affect consumers in any way, because the company was ready for such a scenario.
Only 10% of raw materials came from Russia, and we will replace it with oil from other sources,” Obaitek wrote.
Warsaw cut imports after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
As of February 2023, Orlen is receiving oil under an agreement with Tatneft upon the expiration of its contract with Rosneft, Reuters writes.
Orlen said it would be able to supply its refineries by sea. The company said the shutdown of pipeline supplies would not affect the shipment of gasoline and diesel fuel to its customers.
Oil is also delivered via the Druzhba pipeline to Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. On December 5, the European Union refused to purchase Russian oil, and on February 5, it suspended the purchase of petroleum products. However, the sanctions did not affect exports via Druzhba.
