Ukraine submitted the second part of the answers to a special questionnaire for obtaining the status of a candidate for EU membership.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky expects Ukraine to receive the status of a European Union member candidate in June. This was announced on Monday, May 9, by the Ukrainian leader in a video message.
“Today we have taken another step – a very important and not just formal – towards the European Union. Ukraine has submitted the second part of the answers to a special questionnaire that must be filled by every country seeking to become part of the EU. out. Usually months and months are spent here. But we did everything in a few weeks, “the president said.
He noted that this issue he raised at a meeting with Charles Michel – President of the European Council and Ursula von der Leyen – President of the European Commission.
“Ms. Ursula mentioned that she was amazed at the speed with which our officials responded to the questionnaire. I am glad to hear from her that our speed encourages the European Commission to act as quickly as possible,” Zelensky said.
At the same time, the president noted that the document contains thousands of pages.
The President added that he expects to receive a positive response in June about Ukraine’s acquisition of the status of an EU candidate.
“I expect to receive a positive response in June on our country obtaining the status of an EU member candidate,” he said.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron said Ukraine’s entry into the European Union could take decades.
