Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that the so-called “peace plan” presented by China is not a declaration or resolution, but only “opinions”.
He considers it positive that China has started talking about Ukraine. Question coming from the words of the Chinese side.
It talks about territorial integrity, but does not indicate which country exactly. But our integrity is broken. It talks about nuclear safety. It is important. This coincides with the interests of the world,” Zelensky said on February 24 at a press conference in Kyiv.
It seems to Zelensky that this was not a Chinese peace plan – Beijing simply showed its opinion on this matter.
There are opinions with which we do not agree, but, however, this is already something, the president said.
The United States also reacted to Beijing’s “peace plan” for Ukraine. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan believes that China’s proposal could be limited to the first point – about respect for the sovereignty of all countries.
According to him, the PRC is not using all the levers to really help stop the war.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Blinken negatively assessed the idea of an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, which is contained in the Chinese peace plan.
The US believes that an immediate truce in Ukraine will only lead to the strengthening and rearmament of Russia, Blinken said.
At the same time, he said that the United States is ready to participate in any negotiations on the war in Ukraine.
Some Ukrainian officials have criticized China’s peace plan.
Any “peace plan” that provides only for a “ceasefire” and, as a result, a new line of division and occupation of territories is not about peace,” an adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine wrote on Twitter. Mikhail Podolyak. – Rather, we are talking about “freezing the war”, about “next stages of genocide”.
Ukraine continues to insist on the withdrawal of Russian troops from its internationally recognized borders in 1991. This statement was made by the leader of the Servant of the People faction David Arakhamia.
The Chinese talk about the need to respect the sovereignty of each country, but nowhere do they imply that Russian troops should be quickly withdrawn from Ukraine, he said on television. His party colleague and head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Council, Alexander Merezhko, called the document “a provocative propaganda action by the PRC.” It is a collection of “empty slogans,” he claims.
The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, criticized China’s “peace plan”.
I don’t call it a peace plan, it’s a position paper,” he said, talking to reporters ahead of a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine.
Recall that Beijing previously submitted a 12-point document providing for the resumption of peace talks between Moscow and Kiev.
