The Cultural Heritage Initiative in Ukraine is led by the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Ukraine will receive seven million dollars from the United States to protect the cultural identity and heritage of Ukraine, which is under constant threat and attack from Russian troops. This was announced on Thursday, February 23, by the spokesman of the American Foreign Ministry, Ned Price, writes the Voice of America.
He emphasized that Russia wants to remove from Ukraine not only its territory, but also the invasion of its culture and identity, which also needs support now.
Price informed that the initiative to protect the cultural heritage in Ukraine is led by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the State Department, which will work with the US Embassy in Kiev, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Ukrainian public organizations. and international partners.
The initiative will give priority to cultural heritage sites and collections “directly affected by the Russian war.”
In particular, money is allocated for documentation of damaged objects and collections for prosecution, protection against damage and theft, emergency stabilization of damaged objects, development and implementation of conservation and restoration plans, special training and other activities.
It is known that as of mid-February, there were 1,200 cultural heritage sites in Ukraine that were destroyed or partially damaged. Of these, 500 objects are monuments of culture and history. There is no exact calculation of losses, but the Ministry estimates them in the range of 3-5 billion dollars.
Recall that Ukrainian director Semyon Gorov created a short documentary film about Ukrainian cultural figures and their work during the war. The tape is called Remembrance of the Future.
