The United States is discussing the possibility of supplying fifth-generation fighter jets to Ukraine, in particular, as part of meeting Ukraine’s long-term needs. This statement was made by US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland in an interview with The Washington Post.
She said Washington needs to make sure that if the war does not end, Ukraine remains strong enough to defend its territory and will not allow Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to organize another invasion.
We need to think about a strong integrated air defense for Ukraine, which will include some of the things already provided, but perhaps also those that we have not yet provided, the deputy head of the US State Department clarified.
Nuland was also asked about the possible transfer of American fourth (F-14, F-15 and F-16) and fifth (F-22 and F-35) generation fighters to Ukraine.
We continue to have these conversations both domestically, looking at long-term air defense, and with Ukraine,” she replied.
Nuland indicated that several European countries are interested in such supplies to Ukraine.
Recall that earlier US President Joe Biden said that his country was not going to transfer the F-16 to Ukraine.
