“The death toll from earthquakes in Turkey so far is 43,556 people,” said the head of the country’s Interior Ministry.
The head of the Turkish Interior Ministry added that it is possible to survive such a trauma only “with great unity and solidarity.” Soylu added, among his relatives there are also those who died in these earthquakes.
Earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred on February 6 nine hours apart in southeastern Turkey’s Kahramanmaras province. The tremors, followed by hundreds of aftershocks, were felt in 11 provinces of the country and neighboring states, including Syria.
It should be noted that on February 6, strong earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 were recorded in Turkey. They were the strongest since 1939, and the World Health Organization recognized this earthquake as the strongest natural disaster of the century in the European region.
Turkey has arrested 160 people on charges of violating construction rules after the earthquake.
