The institution has moved away from the goals of strengthening cultural relations and has become a propaganda tool, the Romanian Foreign Ministry stressed.
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed Russian Ambassador Valery Kuzmin about the suspension of the activities of the Russian Center for Culture and Science in Bucharest. The press service of the department reported this on February 21.
It was noted that the representative of the Russian Federation was summoned on Tuesday at the request of Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu.
“The Russian Ambassador was reminded of repeated situations when the Center deliberately took actions to distort the truth and historical facts at the level of Romanian public opinion. These setbacks intensified and gained new points, especially serious ones after the Russian Federation launched an aggressive war against Ukraine,” the statement said. Statement by the Foreign Ministry.
The ministry added that the Center has irrevocably moved away from its natural goals of strengthening cultural ties and, unfortunately, has become an instrument of propaganda, disinformation and justification of the war crimes of the Russian Federation.
The decision will be made no later than August 20.
It was previously reported that the Netherlands plans to expel 17 Russian diplomats from the country.
