Angela Ferreira, the woman who led the movement to legalize posthumous insemination in Portugalannounced today that she is pregnant with her husband, who died of cancer in 2019.
“Today, I finally share the long-awaited news with all of you. It took years of struggle to get here, the process was long and painful… But we finally did it! With great joy and a full heart, I share this now two hearts are beating inside me, ”he said in a post on his Instagram page.
Ferreira starred in the fight in Portugal To obtain post-mortem insemination was legalized after her husband Hugo died of cancer in 2019, leaving in writing his desire for his wife to have a baby with sperm he had cryopreserved during his lifetime.

The rule allows a woman to be inseminated with the genetic material of their deceased partner “in cases of explicit parental consent” and between six months and three years after death.
