Minister of the Interior and Administration of Poland Mariusz Kaminski decided to restrict the movement of Belarusian trucks through the border checkpoint “Kukuriki”. This is the last checkpoint on the border between Poland and Belarus, accessible to trucks.
As reported on the website of the ministry, the movement of Belarusian freight transport through the checkpoint “Kukuriki” (Kozlovichi from Belarus) will be limited from 19.00 on February 21 and until “until the Belarusian authorities lift restrictions for Polish carriers.”
Belarusian trucks will be able to get to Belarus through Lithuania and Latvia, the ministry noted.
The ministry emphasized that the restrictions do not apply to passenger transport that can cross the border through the Terespol checkpoint (Brest).
RIA Novosti reported earlier on February 20 that, according to the Polish Union of Carriers, a 60-kilometer line of trucks appeared near the border checkpoint “Kukuriki” (Kozlovichi).
In early February, the Polish authorities “in favor of state security” closed the Bobrovniki checkpoint, which was considered the largest on the border with Belarus. In response, the Belarusian authorities restricted the passage of Polish trucks through checkpoints on the border with Latvia and Lithuania, deciding to let them pass only through the Belarusian-Polish border. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Poland said that the closure of the Kukuriki checkpoint was a response to restrictions from Belarus.
Since 2021, the Polish authorities have also closed the Polovtsy (Peschatka), Slavatichi (Domachevo) and Kuznitsa Bialystotskaya (Bruzgi) checkpoints.
In addition, on February 20, it became known that Polish diplomats and a border guard were being expelled from Belarus.
The liaison officer of the Polish border service will leave Belarus before Wednesday evening. Two Polish consuls from Grodno will probably also be expelled,” said Lukasz Jasina, spokesman for the Polish Foreign Ministry.
Also, Onet reports that the Polish government continues consultations on a possible reaction to the decision of the Belarusian regime.
It is possible that the Polish government will also decide to expel Belarusian diplomats from the territory of Poland.
