There will be at least two battalions of Leopard 2 tanks in Ukraine, as well as probably six or seven battalions of Leopard 1s with ammunition.
This was stated to journalists by Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov during Zelensky’s talks with Biden.
It will be a coalition. Various countries will provide these Leopard 1 tanks. And there will also be Challenger 2 and Abrams tanks and AMX-10 light tanks from France, Reznikov said.
A tank battalion usually has over 30 tanks.
Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that only half of the previously promised battalion of Leopard 2 tanks would be transferred to Ukraine, and they would be enough for only one and a half battalions. Pistorius said this during a visit to the training ground where the Ukrainian military is learning to master Western tanks. The corresponding video was published on February 20 by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Oleksiy Makeev.
The training of Ukrainian tankers in Germany is proceeding according to the schedule, Minister Pistorius said. The Ukrainians are expected to complete five weeks of training on the Leopard, the tanks that will be handed over to Ukraine.
