“White Lotus” star Aubrey Plaza explained why a note bearing her name slipped on President Joe Biden’s desk during a tour of the White House.
Plaza — who, like Biden, has ties to Delaware — told The New Yorker that she met the president many times and took notes years after meeting him when she was 16.
The “Parks and Recreation” actor said he attended the youth leadership conference as a high school student, where attendees were able to address “multiple issues.”
She said Biden was going to give a speech to students at the climax of the event, and while she believed the intent was to get students’ opinions, she compared herself to an aggressive Tracy Flick from “Election.”
“I was really upset about the conference — and I actually looked down on Joe Biden in the audience because he asked me how it went, and I immediately put my hand up and said, ‘That’s bullshit. . This conference sucks. You didn’t let us talk. It should have been about the students,” Plaza said.
“I always tried to wake up at that time. And he didn’t like it. I remember her face turning very red. He was very passionate when he gave speeches. It was crazy.”
The two crossed paths when Biden was vice president and “Parks & Recreation” filmed an episode at the White House.
Plaza said he saw a note on her desk during the tour that included her name, “Wilmington, Delaware” and the fact that the two met at her conference.
“And I said, ‘I knew it! He doesn’t remember me at all! But that’s how politicians are, you know? I put it in my pocket and Mike Schur, the creator of ‘Parks and Rec,’ was horrified,” Plaza said.
“He said, ‘You can’t steal from the White House!’ And I said, “I don’t care! I know what he did! He didn’t know me!'”
Plaza told The New Yorker that she was sad to lose the note later because she could have framed or sold it.
“I stole it off the desk,” Plaza added.
“And there must be cameras in the White House. But they didn’t do anything to me.”
Plaza touched on her shared Delaware connection with Biden during her “Saturday Night Live” monologue last month.
The actor boasted about his win in an online poll that named him the most famous person in the state.
She indicated that Biden was “livid” at the result and turned to a video of the president.
“Aubrey, you are the most famous person in Delaware and there is no doubt about it. We’re just thankful you made it out of the ‘White Lot’ alive,” Biden joked.
