At the meeting of G-7 leaders, the US urged its allies to “gradually stop Russia’s oil imports.”
The United States has announced a new package of sanctions against Russia, CNN reports, citing senior administration official Joe Biden.
According to him, at the meeting of G-7 leaders, the US will urge its allies to “gradually stop Russia’s oil imports.”
The new US sanctions will target Kremlin-controlled media (Channel One, Russia-1 and NTV) and the Russian industrial sector.
“We will not help them broadcast the lies and deception you hear from Putin every day,” a U.S. official commented on sanctions against Russian TV channels.
Also, the new sanctions will include approximately 2,600 visa restrictions for Russian and Belarusian officials, as well as initial sanctions against the heads of Gazprombank, the institution which buys most of Europe’s Russian gas.
The White House clarified that the sanctions against Gazprombank apply only to the heads of this financial institution.
It will be recalled that US President Joe Biden announced the provision of additional military assistance to Ukraine, which is resisting Russian aggression. According to media reports, we are talking about weapons worth $ 150 million.
