In Latvia yesterday, February 16, the Saeima adopted in the final reading amendments to the law on support for the civilian population of Ukraine, which provide for the possibility of free transfer of state-owned vehicles to the ownership of the Ukrainian government to support Ukrainian society.
This is reported by the local edition of Delfi.
While we can sell the vehicles confiscated from drunk drivers by selling them, handing them over for processing or dismantling them for spare parts, however, we see that in the current conditions they would be useful support for the people of Ukraine, – said the chairman of the Seimas Commission on Defense, Internal Affairs and prevention of corruption Raimonds Bergmanis.
The transfer of cars will be carried out as follows:
- the appropriate decision in each specific case will be made by the Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia in accordance with the regulation on the procedure for the free transfer of state movable property to the ownership of foreign governments and international organizations;
- The vehicle transfer process will be carried out through an organization that cooperates with the Government of Ukraine and has received specific requests for assistance.
