In Melitopol, a city in the Zaporozhye region that has been under Russian occupation since February 2022, local residents continue to show clear resistance to the enemy.
Unable to detect the patriots through threats and bribery, the invaders decided to eavesdrop on them. This was announced today, February 17, in his Telegram channel by the mayor of Melitopol Ivan Fedorov.
According to the General Staff, the work of an additional mobile communication tower installed by the enemy was discovered in the so far occupied Melitopol, Fedorov notes. – With the help of it, the Russian special services have the opportunity to listen to telephone conversations of subscribers of GSM operators.
In addition, the occupiers are trying to transfer residents to the only Internet provider and mobile operator:
- two weeks ago, they stopped the work of the largest local provider, Mediana, in order to force people to renegotiate contracts with the Russian monopoly Mir Telecom, to which Mediana was transferred. You can renew the contract only with a passport;
- announced the creation of a single mobile operator separately for all the occupied territories.
Rashists are strengthening control over the inhabitants in the occupation and can at one moment disconnect them from the means of communication, Fedorov notes.
