Latvia will hand over cars confiscated from drunk drivers to the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Latvian authorities supported changes in the law on support for the civilian population of Ukraine. They provide the possibility to transfer state-owned vehicles to the ownership of the government of Ukraine free of charge. On Thursday, February 16, according to Delfi.

“At the moment, we can sell vehicles confiscated from drunk drivers by selling them, giving them for processing or dismantling them for spare parts, but we see that in the current provided they will be useful support for the people of Ukraine,” said the head of the Commission for Defense, Internal Affairs and corruption prevention Raimonds Bergmanis, who is in charge of advancing the bill to the Seimas.

It is expected that the decision on the transfer of state-owned vehicles in each specific case will be taken by the Cabinet of Ministers. The process itself will be organized through an organization that cooperates with the government of Ukraine and has received specific requests for assistance.

Earlier it was also reported that Latvia will transfer hundreds of thousands of euros worth of medical equipment to Ukraine.

Remember, according to the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, the country’s aid to Ukraine reached 0.93% of the Latvian GDP.
