Last spring, 67-year-old Willis was diagnosed with aphasia, but the disease progressed, and now it is possible to know the exact diagnosis.
The family of actor Bruce Willis says doctors have discovered he has frontotemporal dementia. This was stated in a family statement published on Thursday, February 16.
“Since Bruce was diagnosed with aphasia in the spring of 2022, his condition has progressed, and now we have a more definitive diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD). Unfortunately, communication problems are just one of the symptoms of the disease, which Bruce is facing. While it is painful, finally getting a clear diagnosis is a relief,” the actor’s loved ones said in a statement.
Bruce Willis’ relatives explained that frontotemporal dementia is the most common type of dementia in people over 60.
Patients with this condition experience slowness or stiffness of movement, eventually loss of control over urination and defecation, and muscle weakness.
The actor’s relatives said they decided to make his diagnosis public, hoping to draw public attention to this disease.
“Right now, there is no cure for this disease, this is the reality, but we hope that this will change in the next few years,” the Willis family said.
Recall that last spring, Willis announced the end of his career due to a deterioration in well-being against the background of aphasia, a disorder that weakens a person’s cognitive abilities.
He later rewrote his will for a $250 million inheritance.
