Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) was hospitalized Thursday to be treated for depression, according to a statement released by his chief of staff.
“Last night Senator John Fetterman entered Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to receive treatment for clinical depression. Although John has suffered from depression from time to time throughout his life, it has only become severe in recent weeks,” Adam Jetleson, Fetterman’s senior counsel, said in the statement.
“On Monday, John was evaluated by Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the attending physician to the US Congress. Yesterday, Dr. Monahan referred Walter Reed for hospital care. John has accepted and is receiving voluntary treatment. After examining John, the doctors at Walter Reed told us that John is getting the care he needs and will be on the mend soon,” added Jentleson.
Fetterman was recently hospitalized after experiencing dizziness. He was released after tests ruled out another stroke. The freshman Democratic senator has an auditory processing disorder, which is common among stroke survivors. He had his first stroke as a candidate last year.
