Ukrenergo commented on the situation with electricity supply in Ukraine, taking into account the missile strikes of the aggressor country Russia. Thanks to improved air defenses and Moscow’s “reduced ability to strike,” critical infrastructure is probably behind us, but “we should not relax.”
This opinion was expressed in an interview for Bloomberg by the head of Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytsky. The end of winter will bring relief, he said, even as Russia continues to launch missile strikes and use drones to hit infrastructure.
The enemy has largely lost the ability to cause significant harm, – said Kudritsky.
The head of Ukrenergo highly appreciated the quick repair of power grids carried out by his subordinates, as well as the work of air defense.
However, one should not relax and assume that the Russian air strike campaign is over, the official stressed.
Direct losses inflicted on the Ukrainian energy system will reach “hundreds of millions of dollars”, and economic losses – “billions”. A preliminary damage assessment will be made public in the coming weeks.
Ukrainian repair crews have reduced the time needed to replace transformers by 25% compared to autumn figures.
We have reached a plateau – no further degradation occurs. We can rebuild at the same rate that destruction occurs, and sometimes even faster… Spring and summer will not be easy… If the shelling stops and we are given the opportunity to resume without interruption, we will probably reach a long-term deficit-free period, but we we can’t rely on it,” he said.
