Colombian senator and member of the Centro Democrático party, Paola Holguindescribed as “unsuccessful” the statements of his country’s President Gustavo Petro, who compared the movement of agents of the National Police of Peru in the midst of protests with the Nazis.
In an interview program News Extension, Paola Holguin took the opportunity to apologize as a Colombian congresswoman for the president’s remarks Gustavo Petro and he questioned the way in which his government’s foreign policy was conducted.
“I have to start as a Colombian congressman for apologizing to the Peruvian people, a brotherly people with whom we have over 200 years of diplomatic relations. What is happening in Colombia in international relations is very serious, because it can be said that Petro turns ideological affinity into criminal complicity in statements against Peru, against decisions taken by, for example, the Chilean people, and instead in favor of dictators in the region leaves much to be desired,” he said.
Paola Holguin regretted that the President Gustavo Petro does not respect the sovereignty of the Peruvian people, who acted in accordance with the Political Constitution and the law.

“These unfortunate statements against a public, civic and honest force like the one you have were at some point made against our public force, because it came to power by encouraging violence in the streets. But yesterday, from the balcony of the presidential house, he once again threatened that if the reforms that he presented to Congress were not approved, he would once again call people to the streets,” he said.
“Government pass”
In connection with a proposal approved by the Congressional Committee on Foreign Relations, which rejects the expressions Gustavo Petro and declares him persona non grata, Paola Holguin He indicated that the event was mentioned in the media in his country and received with sadness, but that the decision of the Peruvian Parliament was respected.
“We know that these statements against the decisions made by the Congress, against the Peruvian social forces, deserve a reaction, but we hope that what is happening today will not affect relations with the Colombian people. We have had 201 years of diplomatic relations, we are brother nations. Governments go, but people will always be. We hope that these unfortunate statements by the President of Colombia and this decision of the Congress of Peru will not ultimately affect relations with the Congress of Colombia,” he said.
