Ottawa has imposed sanctions on hundreds of people linked to Russia’s military operations in Ukraine.
The Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Commons of Canada requires the country’s government to regularly report to Parliament on how effective the sanctions mechanism is against Russia. On Tuesday, February 14, wrote Canada Press.
The representatives said that they have repeatedly come across information that the sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation do not work or are too ineffective, and Russian oligarchs have learned to bypass the restrictions imposed against them.
At the same time, the representatives of the Committee are requested not to be limited to random updates on the total amount of frozen funds and to regularly report who has frozen assets, which shell companies are involved and if they avoid punishments.
In this regard, Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Commons Garnett Janis urged the country’s government to recognize PMC Wagner as a terrorist organization.
It will be recalled that the details of what the tenth package of EU sanctions against Russia will include have become known.
It was previously reported that Swiss bank Credit Suisse had frozen Russian assets of nearly $20 billion. This is a third of all declared Russian assets in Switzerland.
