A Wisconsin woman accused of dismembering her boyfriend while high on meth reacted to a delayed trial by physically attacking her attorney Tuesday.
Video footage from a competency hearing shows defendant Taylor Schabusiness suddenly jumping out of her chair and appearing to punch her attorney, Quinn Jolly, after Judge Thomas J. Walsh suggested moving the trial’s scheduled start date from March 6 to May 15 at the earliest.
Schabusiness, who was wearing handcuffs, continued to lunge at Jolly until a law enforcement officer was able to restrain her.
The courtroom was then cleared when an officer stopped Schabusiness and told him to “stop” and “relax.”
According to WBAY, Jolly asked the court for more time to prepare for Schabusiness’ trial. Walsh later decided to reschedule it competency hearing, also setting the initial trial start date for March 6, Fox 6 reported.
After the attack, deputies held Schabusiness until she appeared calm again. She could then be heard asking him what happened.
“You went to your lawyer Taylor, you went crazy with your lawyer,” one of them replied. “You can not do that.”
In the courtroom footage, someone can be heard saying that Jolly was fine and did not need medical attention. WBAY reported that he asked to withdraw from the case.
Schabusiness was charged with first-degree murder, mutilation of a corpse and third-degree sexual assault in the death of Shad Thyrion, who was found decapitated and dismembered in February 2022 in Green Bay.
She pleaded not guilty to the charges based on disease or mental defect. However, a the court-appointed physician who examined her last year deemed her competent to stand trial.
