Since the beginning of November 2022, water has gushed from the Kakhovka reservoir in southern Ukraine due to the sluice gates of a hydroelectric power plant controlled by Russian occupiers. Satellite images show that the water level in the reservoir has fallen to its lowest level in three decades.
This situation is dangerous because the Kakhovka Reservoir provides drinking water for hundreds of thousands of residents, irrigation for almost half a million acres of farmland, and the cooling system for the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk, the invaders deliberately and purposefully carry out ecocide of the region.
They will not be able to hold the occupied territories. Perhaps they have become aware of it. Therefore, they want to leave behind a scorched earth unsuitable for life. Nothing will work for them. Everything can happen very quickly. Remember the dismissal of Kherson? Vereshchuk emphasized.
In early February, they wrote that due to the actions of infidels in the Kakhovka reservoir, the water level dropped by 1.4 m.
It was also reported that due to the shelling of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station in the Dnieper, fish were dying en masse.
