The recruitment of prisoners for the Wagner private military campaign continues.
In particular, since the beginning of February 2023, Russia has recruited about 1,200 prisoners from the occupied Crimea into the Wagnerites. This is stated in the evening summary of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for February 11.
In order to compensate for large-scale military losses, since the beginning of February this year, Russia has used about 1,200 people from the Russian private military company Wagner, who were recruited in prisons from the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the report says.
The General Staff also added that the Russian troops, despite significant losses, do not give up their intentions to enter the administrative borders of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. The enemy continues to concentrate its main efforts on conducting offensive operations in the Kupyansky, Limansky, Bakhmutsky, Avdeevsky and Novopavlovsky directions.
And in the Limansky and Bakhmutsky directions, Russia is strengthening its grouping of troops. The positions of the Ukrainian defenders are actively using aviation.
Recall that the Wagner NPC began recruiting prisoners to participate in the Russian invasion of Ukraine in the summer of 2022. According to the estimates of the US and British authorities for December-January, this company was able to recruit 40,000 prisoners.
And on February 9, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the owner of the Wagner PPK, announced that the private military company had stopped recruiting Russian prisoners to participate in the war. He did not give reasons why PIK refused to recruit prisoners.
