The Russian invaders from the 155th Marine Brigade lost more than 30 armored vehicles.
The Russian offensive failed near the town of Vuhledar in the Donetsk region. And the published footage of the failed attack caused a new wave of criticism of the military command of the Russian Federation. This was stated in the report of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), published the previous day.
“Bloggers took this footage to start criticizing the Russian military leadership. Russian bloggers say that the commanders who led the attack of the 155th Naval Infantry Brigade on Pavlovka in November 2022 are now responsible in the attack on Ugledar. They say that commanders continue to allow the same mistakes that cost dearly. A Russian blogger said that the commander of the Eastern Group of Forces, Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov, is responsible for Russian tactical failures around Vugledar,” the ISW report said.
The institute’s analysts believe that “Russian troops are using tactics that are highly ineffective, indicating that the 155th Marine Brigade is more likely to be composed of poorly trained mobilized than weak command.”
“Russian bloggers likely blamed Russian commanders to downplay the fact that poor systematic training of mobilized Russians will likely continue to lead to similar tactical failures throughout Ukraine in the future. It is likely that bloggers are routinely blaming commanders for tactical failures. to shift overall responsibility for military failures in Ukraine from the Russian armed forces as an institution to individuals,” ISW suggested.
The defeat of Russian troops near Vuhledar was also confirmed by the Russian war criminal, the former “Minister of Defense of the DPR” Igor Girkin (Strelkov).
“More than 30 units of armored vehicles were lost (I will not give a breakdown by type), the loss of only “200” in tankers was many dozens. Marines, special forces and motorized riflemen also died,” Girkin wrote on the social network.
Most of all, he regretted that all these losses of the occupying troops were “one-sided”, because the Armed Forces of Ukraine shot the attackers “as in a shooting range” and again “without much difficulty to hold their positions in the fortified area, which was tried in the spring and summer of last year (also “on the forehead”) takes repeatedly.
