United States military This Friday, they launched a relief mission to Turkey to help with the rescue efforts following the earthquakes that have killed more than 19,000 people in that country alone.
The US European Command (Eucom) said in a statement that it has deployed “military capabilities, personnel and equipment to assist the Turkish government in its search and rescue operations.”
“When an ally or partner country experiences moments of incalculable catastrophe and tragic loss of life, there is never a moment of doubt on the part of USA respond quickly to the needs of this nation,” said Eucom Commander Gen. Christopher Cavoli.
He explained that his country’s forces are assisting the Turkish authorities in search and rescue operations, as well as in the distribution of medical and humanitarian aid.
The Eucom team arrived at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey on Thursday to determine how the US military can quickly help Turkey.
The George Herbert Walker Bush Cargo Ship Battle Group has arrived in the eastern Mediterranean hours after being notified of the earthquake in Turkey and is ready to provide logistical and air support.
In addition, US aircraft flew missions outside the Incirlink base. In particular, on February 7, the transfer of rescuers to the most affected areas began, and a day later they delivered wounded civilians to the local medical center on Black Hawk helicopters.
The US is sending additional Black Hawk and CH-47 Chinook helicopters to Incirlink to respond to requests from Turkish doctors.
It is not yet clear whether US forces will assist in rescue efforts in northern Syria, which has also been hit by earthquakes.
They save a child and his mother in 90 hours
Turkish rescuers managed to free a 10-day-old baby and his mother from a mountain of rubble in Hatay province, 90 hours after the devastating earthquake hit Turkey on Monday.
Little Yagiz and his mother were rescued in the Samandag district of the city of Hatay by specialists from Istanbul, Bosphorus Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu said on Twitter.
Yagiz, who spent almost half of his short life in ruins, received immediate medical attention and was taken to the hospital while two people tried to keep him warm with a heating blanket.
