The former head of the NBU was appointed to indefinite detention without the right to bail. He also claims that he is not allowed to participate in court hearings.
The Appellate Chamber of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court rejected more than 40 defense motions and upheld the decision on the indefinite detention without bail of the former head of the NBU, Kyrylo Shevchenko, accused by the NABU of embezzling funds from State-owned Ukrgasbank. Shevchenko herself wrote about it on Facebook.
“Today, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court has finally shown that the purpose of the case opened against me is not justice, but prosecution as such. no right to bail,” Shevchenko wrote.
The former head of the NBU noted that the court completely sided with the prosecution, ignoring the rights of the defense.
“This is confirmed not only by the manifest decision on the measure of detention, but also by all other decisions of VAKS. I am not allowed to participate in court hearings. The applications for my participation in the trial by videoconference was rejected. More than 40 petitions and defense applications were also rejected – that is, without exception, all the appeals of my lawyers were assessed by the court a priori as unsatisfied. Not at all the court tried to pretend that it was studying the case,” the ex-head of the National Bank emphasized.
It will be recalled that on October 4 last year, Kirill Shevchenko announced that he resigned for health reasons, and on October 6 it became known that a case was opened against him in NABU and SAPO. On the same day, he was removed from the position of head of the NBU.
Later, NABU put Shevchenko on the wanted list.
