The next few weeks will be decisive. Therefore, we must remain united, said Charles Michel.
The European Union should support Ukraine in three main areas. This is military aid, promotion of the peace formula and European integration of Ukraine. This was announced on Thursday, February 9, by the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, in a press conference with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels.
“For me, the next few weeks will be decisive. So we have to stay united and keep things calm. We have to give support in three areas. The first direction is military. We have already said that you will receive the maximum number of weapons. These are air defense systems, and tanks, and other military equipment,” said Michel.
According to him, the Ukrainian formula for peace should be in another direction.
“We want to tell you clearly and openly that we support your initiative so that the UN Charter and international law are respected without compromise. This is a political conflict and we want to hold a peace summit as soon as possible to send the right message of peace,” he said.
The head of the European Council added that the third main area should be European integration, because Ukraine made a choice “that we heard back in Maidan – in favor of freedom, democracy and the EU.”
“You continue to implement reforms and implement our recommendations bravely and courageously, despite the war. I will personally monitor this process so that the European Commission will continue to monitor your progress on this path,” assured of the President of the European Council.
Remember, on February 9, Zelensky took part in the summit of EU leaders in Brussels. He called on the EU countries to increase the dynamics of cooperation in military assistance to Ukraine, which is more active than Russia can mobilize its potential.
