Rescuers are predicting a rise in the death toll as search operations approach the 72-hour mark.
The death toll from the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria has reached 16,000. CNN reported this in relation to local authorities and international organizations.
It is known that the total number of dead in Syria is at least 3162 people.
1,262 deaths were recorded in areas controlled by Damascus, according to Syrian state media. Another 1,900 people died in rebel-held areas in the northwest of the country.
In Turkey, the death toll has risen to 12,873, with around 63,000 affected.
Aid agencies have warned that the death toll is likely to rise significantly, especially in Syria as search and rescue efforts approach the 72-hour mark.
It will be remembered that on February 6, two strong earthquakes occurred in the southeast of Turkey, which also affected neighboring Syria.
