Chile: government imposes curfew in the south of the country due to forest fires

The Chilean government has announced a curfew in the regions of Biobio, Suble and La Araucania. a wave of fires that engulfed areas of the center and south of the country. This tragedy claimed the lives of 24 people.

The measure, which will take place this Thursday following a meeting between Chilean authorities and each region’s defense chiefs, aims to “guarantee the safety of families affected by the emergency,” according to BioBio Chile.

“We had an important region with the commanders-in-chief of the three services of the Armed Forces and the chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, where I let them know that the Government considered it necessary to impose a curfew,” Chilean President Gabriel Boric said in a press statement.
