The leopard injured at least five people on Wednesday as it entered a courthouse on the outskirts of India’s capital, police said.
Footage of the incident circulating on social media shows how several men were injured as a result of an attack by security forces. leopard in the court of Ghaziabad.
Policemen in bulletproof vests brandished sticks and hung nets inside the compound to try and corner it, according to video seen by AFP.
“He leopard jumped in a panic, and five to six people were injured. They are trying to catch him,” said a local police officer who did not want to be named.
However, new images on social media show a cat.
Incidents with leopards have become more frequent
Ghaziabad is located on the eastern outskirts of New Delhi, not far from the forest area, which is home to leopards.
IN India at least 12,000 leopards live. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has classified them as vulnerable.
Authorities say one person is killed on average leopard per day as they enter human-inhabited areas and the number of incidents is increasing due to deforestation in India.
