King Charles III and Volodymyr Zelensky held a tea meeting on February 8.
It was the first meeting of the British monarch with the President of Ukraine. During an audience with Zelensky, the king said that he was very worried during the life of the president and Ukraine as a whole.
UP quotes royal correspondent Sean Coughlan as saying that for the king, meeting Zelensky is more than a photo shoot.
It was a deeply personal matter. The king has been extremely outspoken about Ukraine, so the president’s visit will mean much more than a handshake and a photo shoot. After the Russian invasion, the then Prince of Wales denounced the “brutal aggression” much more harshly than the royals’ usual neutral tones, Coughlan said.
Zelensky congratulated the king on his recent ascension to the throne and wished peace and prosperity to the British people. The President of Ukraine also expressed gratitude to the British and the British government and noted that the United Kingdom is one of the closest and most important allies of Ukraine, the Office of the President said.
Zelensky’s visit to London today is his second trip abroad since the start of a full-scale war unleashed by Russia.

On November 30, 2022, First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska met with Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla. Together with the British king, Zelenska took part in the official opening ceremony of a center for refugees from Ukraine in London. This was her second meeting with Charles after talking during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain.
Prior to this, only the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, hosted Ukrainian presidential spouses in 2020.
