On Wednesday, China urged the United States to maintain an “objective and rational” perception and pursue a more “active and pragmatic” policy toward the Asian nation at a time of intense tensions between the two powers.
“In relations with USA, China It will pursue a policy based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and cooperation, but will also protect its sovereignty, security and development interests,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a press conference.
“We urge USA support an objective and rational perception and a more active and pragmatic policy towards China”, he asserted.
The spokeswoman added that “Beijing will not shun or fear competition, but will be against using it to define bilateral relations.”
“USA You also must not use competition to limit the legal rights to develop China or damage global supply chains,” he said in response to a question about US President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, who yesterday said the two powers should seek “competition, not conflict.”
Biden assured that he was not going to apologize for betting on this competition and “investing to make the United States strong” and betting on innovation, on industries that will determine the future and which China trying to dominate
balloon case
Regarding the recent episode of the alleged Chinese spy balloon flying over the US and causing a new bilateral political crisis, Mao Zedong reiterated that “the use of force to attack a Chinese civilian aircraft is unacceptable and irresponsible.”
“The exaggeration and use of the ‘Chinese threat’ card will neither help build bilateral trust nor improve relations. USA be safe,” the spokeswoman said.
USA shot down on Saturday a balloon that had been flying over the country for several days and whose remains fell into the Atlantic Ocean.
During his address to Congress, Biden issued a warning to Beijing after a Chinese balloon that Washington said was being used for espionage was shot down. “As we clarified last week, if China threatens our sovereignty, we will act to protect our country. And we did it,” he said.
The discovery of these devices in US airspace has sparked a new diplomatic crisis between Washington and Beijing and has resulted in the suspension of a trip that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken planned to make to the Asian nation over the weekend.
