The Coronavirus disease in Ukraine still exists. About 2,500 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19 every week.
Currently, 12 subtypes of the COVID-19 strain are circulating in Ukraine. On Tuesday, February 7, said the chief state sanitary doctor of Ukraine Igor Kuzin.
He recalled that on January 24, the first case of infection with a new subspecies of the Omicron XBB.1.5 coronavirus strain, also called Kraken, was registered in Ukraine. It is actively circulating in Europe and the USA.
According to Kuzin, this subspecies of the disease spreads rapidly. However, it is too early to say that he represents a greater danger than the previous ones, because “there is no reliable information about his aggression.”
The chief sanitary doctor emphasized that the disease still poses a risk to part of the country’s population and that approximately 2,500 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19 every week.
According to the chief sanitary doctor, 5-7% of the beds allocated to combat the disease are now occupied.
“They also continue to register fatal cases. 80% of them are patients aged 60+. Almost all of them have not been vaccinated,” Kuzin said.
He added that there is enough funding in hospitals to diagnose the infection, but noted that they are more likely not to contact doctors with symptoms of the coronavirus.
“People go to the doctor in case of emergency, when they feel bad,” believes Igor Kuzin.
Recall that earlier the World Health Organization said that the world is at risk of a new strain of coronavirus, which could cause a wave of morbidity.
