The victims of the recent powerful earthquake in Turkey as of 17.30 today, February 7, are probably two Ukrainians.
The Embassy of Ukraine checks this information and takes measures to identify the victims. This was announced on his Facebook page by the representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Oleg Nikolenko.
It has not yet been possible to establish contact with another 19 Ukrainians.
In total, diplomats have already tracked down 38 citizens of Ukraine. It is known that four Ukrainians received minor bodily injuries – there are no threats to their lives, they do not need hospitalization. The victims are provided with temporary housing and food.
The official noted that the Foreign Ministry is preparing to send Ukrainian consuls to the city of Gaziantep, which was the epicenter of the earthquake. According to Nikolenko, Ukrainian diplomats will be able to arrive in the disaster area as soon as the situation resolves amid the declared state of emergency in Turkey.
The consuls will coordinate on-site assistance to the citizens of Ukraine, deliver them warm clothes and essentials. On the way back, the embassy plans to take out with its own vehicles those Ukrainians who express a desire to move to other regions of Turkey, Nikolenko said.
