More than 8 million Ukrainians were forced to flee to neighboring countries because of the war, 5.3 million people were internally displaced.
Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths, UN Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, said nearly 13.3 million people have been forced to flee their homes since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. The United Nations reported this.
“The tragedy continues, and there is no end in sight,” said Griffiths, speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Ukraine.
He cited unprecedented numbers: more than 7,000 civilians in Ukraine, according to him, were killed. These are the numbers confirmed by the UN, although the real numbers may be higher.
More than 8 million Ukrainians were forced to flee to neighboring countries, 5.3 million people were displaced within the country – many of them live in collective centers. According to the UN, this is the largest refugee movement since World War II.
“17.6 million people are in need of assistance – 40% of the population of Ukraine. On the eve of the terrible anniversary of a mass invasion, we still have a lot to do in terms of humanitarian assistance, and we can do a lot more,” Griffiths stated .
Recall that earlier the UN said that the war had hit the economy of Ukraine, collapsing it by more than a third.
The UN also says 17.6 million Ukrainians are in need of aid, and 5.3 million children are out of school.
