However, aftershocks between 5.0 and 6.0+ are still possible and carry the risk of further damage to structures affected from the first earthquake. . The tremors extended more than 400 kilometers along the fault zone in southern Turkey, oriented from the southwest to the northeast and from the Mediterranean Sea along the northern coast of Syria to the province of Malatya.
Recall that on February 6, two strong earthquakes occurred in the southeast of Turkey: in the Pazardzhik region of the Kahramanmarash province – a magnitude of 7.7 and in the Elbistan region of the same province – 7.6 on the Richter scale.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared a state of emergency for three months in 10 provinces of the country.
