A detachment of Ukrainian rescuers went to help Turkey and the necessary equipment was sent, the President said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke by phone with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which he expressed his condolences regarding the many victims as a result of a strong earthquake. The press service of the Ukrainian leader reported this on Tuesday, February 7.
Zelensky told Erdogan that he decided to provide humanitarian aid to the Turkish people to help overcome the consequences of the emergency that developed in the country as a result of the earthquakes.
Also, a detachment of Ukrainian rescuers helped Turkey and sent the necessary equipment.
“Ukrainian specialists have relevant experience in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and will arrive in the affected regions in the shortest possible time. They will help in the entire range of work to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake,” assured by Zelensky.
Recall that on February 6, two strong earthquakes occurred in the southeast of Turkey: in the Pazardzhik region of the Kahramanmarash province – a magnitude of 7.7 and in the Elbistan region of the same province – 7.6 on the Richter scale. Hundreds of aftershocks have also been recorded.
The number of dead from the earthquake in Turkey exceeded 3.5 thousand, and taking into account the data from neighboring Syria, more than 5 thousand people became victims of the cataclysm in general, and these data are not still final. Tens of thousands of people were also injured.
