Russian energy monopoly Gazprom Neft is setting up its own private military company (PIK).
The corresponding order was signed by the head of the government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin. This was reported today, February 7, on the website of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Intelligence also published a document stating that the founders of the VAT will be:
- PJSC “Gazprom Neft” with a share in the authorized capital of the “organization” of 70%;
- “Private security organization staff center” with a share of 30%.
When creating an “organization”, the government of the Russian Federation refers to the law “on the safety of fuel and energy complex facilities”, which states that industry enterprises “may be granted the right to establish a private security organization”. The size of the share of such an enterprise in the authorized capital of the new “organization” cannot be less than 50%, the GUR notes.
Intelligence believes that the creation of this VAT is evidence of the continuation of the “arms race” among the main political players in Russia, who are actively creating private armies following the example of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s well-known NDK Wagner.
