IS fighters escape from Syrian prison after earthquake

At least 20 people, mostly members of a terrorist organization, escaped from a prison in Raja in northwestern Syria after the earthquake. Islamic State. This was announced on February 7 by France 24 TV channel referring to AFP.

It is known that around 2,000 prisoners are being held in a prison near the border with Turkey, of which 1,300 are suspected of being involved with ISIS. There are also fighters of the Kurdish forces.

“After the earthquake, the inmates started rioting and took control of part of the prison. About 20 escaped … believed to be IS militants,” the prison official said.

According to him, as a result of the strong tremors, the walls of the prison were broken.

The Syrian Monitoring Center for Human Rights said it could not verify the prisoners’ escape, but confirmed the uprising.

The Raju incident came after an ISIS attack on a security complex in December intended to free jihadists. Six members of the Kurdish-led security forces that control the area were killed in the attack.

Recall that on February 6, two strong earthquakes occurred in southeastern Turkey, where neighboring Syria also suffered.
