Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs ChinaXie Feng, the accused USA “serious damage” to relations between the two powers after Washington shot down a Chinese balloon flying over American airspace.
Xie said that “a civilian aircraft accidentally entered US airspace” and that USA “indiscriminately used force” against the device, according to a statement released by China’s foreign ministry.
The official called Washington’s reaction “exaggerated” and accused the North American country of “serious violation of the spirit of international law.”
“China will protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and uphold the interests and dignity of the country,” Xie said.

According to the statement, the Foreign Ministry urged Xie to take Chinese grievances to the US embassy in Beijing on Sunday.
The United States shot down a hot air balloon on Saturday that flew over the country for several days and whose remains fell into the sea and are being recovered.
China On Friday, he acknowledged that the balloon belonged to him, although he assured that “it is a civilian airship used for research purposes, mainly meteorological.”
The sighting of these balloons in US airspace has sparked a diplomatic crisis between Washington and Beijing and caused the suspension of a trip that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken planned to make to the Asian country over the weekend.
