The Ukrainian city’s leadership is now in the United States, where it is building links with politicians and funds that help recovery.
The capital of the state of New York – the city of Albany – offered the city of Bucha to become partners. This was announced on Saturday, February 4, by the mayor of the Ukrainian city Anatoly Fedoruk during a trip to the United States, Ukrinform reports.
“In New York state, we plan to visit Albany, Buchi’s future partner city. The mayor’s office of this city has developed an initiative to partner with our city,” said Fedoruk.
He also said that a delegation from the mayor’s office is in the United States on a six-day working visit.
“The main goal is to convey to the people of the United States what is happening in Ukraine, and to establish direct links with politicians, funds that will help us in recovery,” he said.
According to the mayor, “it is important to rebuild what was destroyed, but what is more important is to be more modern and stronger than on February 24.”
He noted that the American side provided for him in Washington “a fairly high level of meetings” – from the leadership of the US Agency for International Development USAID to congressmen, officials, party leaders, journalists, businessmen .
“Both Democrats and Republicans are united on the issue of supporting Ukraine – both now, to achieve victory in the war, and in the future,” he shared.
After the Russian atrocities in Bucha, the world’s attention was focused on him, the mayor said: “We have to carry out at this time even to a certain extent a diplomatic mission, receiving politicians and various other delegations.”
The head of the city also said that in Washington he took part in a USAID leadership meeting, where it was decided to allocate $135 million to Ukraine and Moldova from the funds previously allocated for the US-Russian investment fund TUSRIF.
