The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak said that the bodies of two British volunteers who died near Soledar were returned to the Ukrainian side.
Chris Perry (28) and Andrew Begshaw (47), both charity workers, died in early January while trying to evacuate an elderly woman from a conflict zone when a shell hit their car.
They were last seen alive on 6 January.
On January 24, the British Foreign Office officially confirmed their deaths.
Throughout their stay in Ukraine, they were engaged in the delivery of food and medicine to the war zones and helped with the evacuation of civilians.
The bodies were returned to Ukraine during the exchange of prisoners, as well as the bodies of those killed during the battles near Soledar.
Recall that as a result of the exchange, the Russian side handed over 116 Ukrainian servicemen, including the defenders of Mariupol, partisans from Kherson and snipers from Bakhmut, as well as two special forces.
The Russian Ministry of Defense, in turn, reported that 63 Russian soldiers were returned from captivity as a result of a complex negotiation process with the participation of the United Arab Emirates.
This is the second exchange of prisoners of war between Ukraine and Muscovites.
In addition, today it was possible to return the body of a deceased volunteer soldier – a Ukrainian who served in the French Foreign Legion and after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion, returned to defend Ukraine – Evgeny Olegovich Kulik.
