Companies from Turkey, Kazakhstan and Armenia resell goods to the aggressor country Russia that it itself cannot purchase due to sanctions.
This was stated by Prime Minister of Latvia Krisjanis Karins.
It appears that merchants are finding ways to legally sell goods to, say, Turkey, Kazakhstan or Armenia, which are then sent to Russia, as these countries do not comply with the sanctions regime, Reuters quoted Karins as saying.
The Latvian politician pointed to a significant increase in trade between the European Union and these three countries, which is “disproportionate to how it was before.” At the same time, the head of the Latvian government did not indicate what kind of goods in question.
One possible way to address this is to work with these countries, get them to comply with the sanctions. The second option is to develop legislation in Europe that would criminalize the avoidance of sanctions, the head of the Latvian government said.
