The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called Tbilisi’s actions against Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili psychological and physical violence and called on Georgia to stop torture and transfer the convict to Kyiv.
We call on the Georgian authorities to immediately stop mocking Saakashvili and hand him over to Ukraine. Do not play with a person’s life for the sake of political revenge, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry added that the Georgian authorities are acting “in the worst traditions of the NKVD of the USSR” when they use “psychological and physical violence against Saakashvili, deny him urgently needed medical care, deliberately creating an immediate threat to his life.”
Ukrainian diplomats also pointed to the curtailment of democracy in Georgia.
Recall that earlier Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets demanded to be allowed into Saakashvili and called on human rights activists to influence the Georgian authorities.
President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that the Georgian authorities are slowly killing the former Georgian president and current citizen of Ukraine, Saakashvili.
