There are nearly 100 Leopard tanks in a bunker in mountainous eastern Switzerland. Politicians are pushing to sell them to Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
The Swiss party FDP offered the Cabinet of Ministers to help Ukraine with Leopard tanks. Bloomberg reported this.
It is now said that in a bunker in mountainous eastern Switzerland there are almost 100 Leopard tanks, which have been mothballed for a decade.
Switzerland is not considering sending weapons directly to Ukraine on the battlefield, but leading politicians are calling for the Leopard to be sold for a nominal fee to Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, replacing the tank they plan to send to Ukraine.
The Swiss Parliament will discuss a bill that would allow Germany, Spain and Denmark to also send Swiss ammunition to the front.
According to Maya Riniker, a member of parliament from the center party FDP, the war changed Switzerland’s position.
We cannot abandon Switzerland’s neutrality, but we need to discuss what opportunities we have to support countries that uphold the same democratic values as Switzerland,” he said.
It will be recalled that in January, Germany decided to transfer the first batch of 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. In addition, the German authorities will give permission to the allies to supply Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
Earlier, the media wrote that Switzerland is ready to approve the re-export of its weapons to Ukraine.
