On February 1, mass searches and investigative actions began in Ukraine against persons suspected of corruption and embezzlement of public funds. In addition to searches at the homes of Igor Kolomoisky and Arsen Avakov, law enforcement officers carried out investigative actions in the tax office of Kyiv and against Vadim Stolar, people’s deputy from the Opposition Platform for Life.
The prosecutor’s office reported the suspicion to Deputy Director of the Department of Public Procurement and Supply of Material Resources of the Ministry of Defense Bogdan Khmelnytsky, former Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Vyacheslav Shapovalov and former deputy of the State Enterprise Promoboronexport Volodymyr Tereshchenko, law enforcement sources told UP.
Khmelnytsky was charged with embezzlement of public funds in the amount of UAH 107.8 million and providing units of the Armed Forces with low-quality bulletproof vests in the amount of 5.7 thousand pieces.
Shapovalov was reported on suspicion of illegal actions, as a result of which certain units of the Armed Forces were not equipped with personal protective equipment worth more than UAH 1 billion.
Also, the State Bureau of Investigation conducts searches at the leadership of the tax Kyiv. Investigators of the Bureau are investigating the fact of illegal receipt of VAT refunds from the state budget, including due to abuse of power and official position by representatives of the tax authorities.
Investigations are taking place in head of the tax service in Kyiv and deputy head of the Main Department of the State Tax Service in Kyiv.
Law enforcers suspect that due to the actions of tax officials, more than UAH 30 billion of state funds got into the shadow circulation.
The media report that searches continue today at the people’s deputy of the already banned Opposition Platform for Life Vadim Stolar.
