His victory raised huge hopes in a country ravaged by civil wars that claimed the lives of 250,000 people from 1989 to 2003 and the Ebola epidemic from 2014-2016.
More than half of the country’s five million people live on less than $1.9 a day, according to the World Bank.
The former PSG and AC Milan star striker has promised to create jobs and invest in education when he comes to power.
