Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmihal found no reason to deprive the MP of the pro-Russian banned party “Opposition Platform – During Life” Yuriy Boyko the title of Hero of Ukraine.
Shmihal, in response to a request from the Chestno movement, wrote that he did not find sufficient grounds for applying personal sanctions to one of the leaders of the Opposition Platform for Life.
This is stated in the response of the Office of the President to the request.
The petition for the immediate deprivation of the title of Hero of Ukraine, filed by Lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andriy Gaidai, of the person involved in the Register of State Traitors Boyko, gathered more than 26 thousand votes of Ukrainians.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy on December 9 turned to Shmyhal to analyze the existence of reasonable grounds for applying personal restrictive measures against Boyko.
Almost a month later, Denys Shmigal sent a reply to Volodymyr Zelensky that there were not enough grounds to apply sanctions against Yuriy Boyko.
Boyko received the title of Hero of Ukraine in 2004 from the then President Leonid Kuchma “for outstanding personal services to the Ukrainian state in the development of the fuel and energy complex, many years of selfless work” (when he headed NJSC Naftogaz and agreed on gas debts to Russia and Turkmenistan) .
Boyko, after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, on February 26, was on the air of the Kremlin’s chief propagandist Vladimir Solovyov. Together with the propagandist, he sneered at the tragic situation in the country and the provision of information by the Ukrainian media.
It should be noted that the Verkhovna Rada voted for the basis of bill No. 6163 authored by more than 40 people’s deputies from all factions and groups (except for the ex-OPLE), which provides for the introduction of a mechanism to deprive state awards from persons who publicly supported the annexation of Crimea, justify the occupation of Ukrainian territories, publicly deny the armed Russian aggression against Ukraine, popularize the leadership of the aggressor state, etc.
Earlier, the Movement HONESTLY wrote that in the Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation there are three people’s deputies with the title of Hero of Ukraine: one of the leaders of the banned pro-Russian HLE, Yuriy Boyko, and two combat soldiers – the ex-commander of the Airborne Assault Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the first deputy chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada and the first deputy chairman of the Committee VRU, Lieutenant General Mikhail Zabrodsky (“European Solidarity”) and ex-commander of the 5th BTG of the 81st separate airborne brigade of the Airborne Assault Forces Igor Gerasimenko (“Servant of the People”).
In the summer of 2004, Kuchma awarded Boyko with the State Order and the title of Hero of Ukraine. In the decree, this is formulated as follows: “for outstanding personal services to the Ukrainian state in the development of the fuel and energy complex, many years of selfless work.”
