Analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) suggest that the further offensive of the Russians will take place in the Lugansk region or in the area of Vuhledar, Donetsk region.
In the construction of the Institute on January 28, it is reported that Russia is preparing several stages of an offensive in Ukraine with the aim of completely capturing the Donbass. These stages are likely to take six to 12 months, so such plans are unlikely to come to fruition.
Russian troops may try to disperse the grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Svatovo-Kremennaya line in order to clear the way for a second attack on the Liman of the Donetsk region. They may try to use Lyman as a launching point for a decisive advance into the Donbass, launching attacks from Liman along with the advance towards Bakhmut, or from Bakhmut towards Sloviansk if they succeed in capturing Bakhmut, the ISW report says.
Localized attacks on Vuhledar and settlements in Donetsk and Zaporozhye regions are likely to disperse Ukrainian troops and create conditions for a Russian offensive in the west of Luhansk region.
Analysts consider it a sign of preparations for an offensive to overturn units of the 2nd motorized rifle division of the first tank army of the Russian Federation into the Luhansk region. However, they have not yet recorded any signs of an attack being prepared from Belarus.
